Castor Marine delivers Connectivity and IT solutions to vessels and yachts globally. Our customers are active in commercial shipping, offshore and yachting. The Connectivity solutions are primary internet by satellite (VSAT / Starlink/ Iridium/ Fleet Broadband) all around the globe. Castor Marine engineers manage the IT solutions to enable the customer to focus on their core job and we take care of managing the IT infrastructure on their vessels.
Castor Marine’s offices are in Utrecht and Groningen, The Netherlands. In the office in Groningen, Netherlands we have the Maritime Support Team providing configurations, installation, maintenance and support for IT and Connectivity equipment on vessels.
IT Engineer
Castor Marine is growing in the maritime sector with Connectivity and IT solutions. To enable this growth Castor Marine is looking for an IT Engineer. The IT Engineer supports our global customers and works on our Managed IT solutions(s) range of products.
On a day-to-day basis are you collaborating with your colleagues to support the (managed) network environment from our customers. The IT networks are based on Fortinet, Cisco and Peplink. The Managed Server environment is based on VMWare and Microsoft solutions. Most of the job is done from the office and sometimes you have to visit a vessel for installation and troubleshooting.
The position will be part of the Maritime Support Team within Castor Marine based in Groningen.
Primary responsibilities:
- Design, implement and maintain computer systems, which may include personal computers, servers, networking equipment, operating systems, and software applications.
- Maintain and update system documentation.
- Support customers with an initiative-taking approach.
- Prepare and test installations in our prefab facility.
- Keep up to date with products and technology.
Your skills/ mindset:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
- 3+ years proven work experience in IT.
- Initiative-taker experience getting going with little supervision.
- Able to solve problems, as individual and in a Team.
- The ability/ willingness to travel.
- Castor Marine is a 24/7 company, meaning that sometimes you need to work/ assist outside of office hours.
- Work may require occasional overnight travel and weekend and/or evening work.
- Language(s) spoken English.
